  1. Raise money for Juvenile Diabetes

  2. Visit nursing homes and sing for them

  3. Raise money and supplies for SPCA

  4. Have a garage sell and the proceeds go to help area homeless children

  5. Raise money for Breast Cancer research

  6. Provide help for disabled families

  7. Help eliminate hunger in Wake County

  8. Become pen pals with sick kids in area hospitals such as Duke cancer unit

Meeting, Planning, Illuminating

Lucy’s Helping Hands meets twice a month at various locations in the Raleigh, North Carolina, area. During the meetings, upcoming service projects are discussed and planned. The girls also have a chance to get to know each other better through games, crafts and other fun activities.


Many meetings will also include workshops that help the girls develop new skills or learn more about important age-appropriate issues. Topics include the following:

  1. Money management

  2. Peer pressure

  3. Nutrition

  4. Drugs and alcohol

  5. Girls in the media

  6. Humane treatment of animals

  7. Self esteem

  8. Career development

  9. Body image

  10. Academic achievement

  11. Family dynamics



Powerful Projects That Make A Difference

At least once a month in the summer, a community service project is completed by Lucy’s Helping Hands members and volunteers.


Current and upcoming service projects include the following:

  1. Planting and harvesting a vegetable garden to supply food to the Wake County Soup Kitchen

  2. Collecting suitcases for homeless children

  3. Collecting movies and books for Interact of Wake County

  4. Collecting school supplies for children in need

  5. Making gift baskets for the elderly living in nursing homes

  6. Organizing painting parties for kids in hospitals
